About Blue Water Sailing School
Blue Water Sailing School is based at d'Albora Marina in Docklands, Melbourne, and teaches on Port Phillip under the International Yacht Training (IYT) system. Principal instructor Tim Foster is a commercially certified skipper and RYA Yachtmaster Instructor, and the school also runs seasonal liveaboard courses in the Whitsundays.
Newcomers can start with a four-hour Experience Sailing session or the two-day Learn to Sail course before moving on to Competent Crew. International Crew and Bareboat Skipper students sail together on liveaboard courses, overnighting at places such as Wyndham Harbour and Queenscliff, and Bareboat Skipper can lead to the ICC for European charters. IYT Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper is taught on longer coastal passages, and the school also offers private lessons, a docking clinic, and online VHF and HF marine radio courses and exams.
It suits Melburnians wanting a practical start aboard a cruising yacht and a clear path to skipper certificates. Whitsundays courses depart Mackay or Hamilton Island, and passage dates are limited, so check the schedule early.
