About Mordialloc Sailing Club
When most Melbourne dinghy clubs pack away the rescue boats in autumn, Mordialloc Sailing Club is just getting started. This family-oriented off-the-beach club on the foreshore beside Mordialloc Creek has made winter its signature season — it is, in its own branding, the home of Sail Mordi, the winter regatta that has run annually for years, and its Mordi Winter Series draws as many as sixty sailors onto the water each Sunday through August and September. Few clubs anywhere in the country build their identity around the cold half of the year; Mordialloc does, and the bay obliges.
The rest of the operation is no less substantial. The club presents itself as open to every age and ability in a safe, inclusive setting, backed by strong facilities and first-class race management — a claim supported by its résumé, which includes hosting the 470 World Championships in 2008, the O'pen Skiff National Championship in 2024 and the 2026 ILCA Victorian Masters. The class list at club events spans ILCAs in all rigs, Sabres, Tasars, 420s, Flying Fifteens, Impulses, Sharpies, Musto Skiffs, 29ers, Fireballs, Waszps, Mosquito, Taipan and Viper catamarans, O'pen Skiffs and windsurfers.
Community roots run deep in the City of Kingston. Sponsors include the local Bendigo Community Bank branch and Kingston City Council, and programs deliver sailing experiences for local secondary schools. A volunteering culture underpins it all, including a race-management team that welcomes non-sailors wanting on-water involvement. From its clubhouse at 12A Bowman Street, Aspendale, the club runs a year-round program that most bayside rivals only manage in summer.
