About South of Perth Yacht Club
## Introduction - South of Perth Yacht Club (SoPYC) is located at Coffee Point, 2 Canning Beach Road, Applecross. The clubhouse sits on reclaimed foreshore with jetties and pens giving direct access to both the Swan and Canning Rivers. The club supports keelboat, centreboard/dinghy and powerboat activity and operates a full Sailing Academy that runs junior and adult tuition alongside club racing and ocean events.
## What the club offers - Year-round keelboat and dinghy racing across multiple divisions and one-design classes (including the H28 and other class fleets). - A Sailing Academy that delivers Tackers (junior beginner program), Optimist Green Fleet, OutThere Sailing for teens, adult learn-to-sail courses, wingfoiling and windsurfing lessons, school programs and performance development pathways. - Ocean racing (including historic events such as the Billy Run and the Fremantle–Geraldton ocean race connections), regular club regattas and powerboat time trials. - Marina-style facilities: water pens, hardstand for trailerable boats, covered dinghy storage, travel-lift/slip facilities, and marina/pens policies and allocation procedures.
## Practical notes for sailors - The site provides sheltered launching and race course options because it fronts both the Swan and the Canning rivers; centreboard sailors commonly launch to the Swan, while keelboats and the power fleet use pens on the Canning side. - The club runs structured coaching and pathways for juniors and adults, plus programs for people with disability (Sailability).
## Membership and social facilities - SoPYC offers member dining and bar facilities and hosts social, corporate and event hire functions. The club emphasises participation across social cruising, competitive racing and training.
