About Smooth Sailing School
Smooth Sailing School is an independent learn-to-sail business in Victoria that describes itself as the state's only fully mobile sailing school. It is not a yacht club: it partners with host clubs and brings its own trailer fleet, instructors and safety equipment. Williamstown is its most popular metropolitan venue, with courses also at Wyndham Harbour, Flinders, Barwon Heads, Indented Head, Metung and Paynesville, and all courses follow Australian Sailing's nationally recognised programs.
The range covers Tackers 1, 2 and 3 for children aged 7 to 12, OutThere Sailing 1 and 2 for teens, and Start Sailing 1, Start Sailing 2 and Better Sailing for adults. Instructors usually coach from a safety boat, and boats, sails and lifejackets are supplied. Schools, camps and community groups can arrange tailored on-water programs.
The courses suit everyone from complete beginners to sailors preparing for club racing, with water confidence the main entry requirement. Dates and levels vary between venues, so check which courses are scheduled at the nearest one before booking.
