About Southern Cross Yachting
Southern Cross Yachting is a sailing school based at East Coast Marina on the Royal Esplanade in Manly, on Brisbane's bayside. It describes itself as Australia's original accredited RYA sail training centre, established in 1996, and trains on Moreton Bay year-round, with seasonal courses in the Whitsundays.
Courses follow the Royal Yachting Association pathway, from a one-day Introduction to Sailing and RYA Start Yachting through Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper to Yachtmaster preparation and exams. Theory is covered by RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship, Day Skipper Theory and Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory, and the school also runs RYA Powerboat Level 2, marine radio licences, Bareboat Charter Prep, ICC assessment, mile-building passages and private tuition on your own yacht.
It suits beginners wanting a structured start in sheltered water, and sailors working towards skipper qualifications or a charter holiday. Whitsundays courses run only in the cooler months, so check the current calendar and location for each course before booking.
