About Water Makers Australia
Water Makers Australia grew from a practical family boat project on Sydney's Port Hacking River. Owner **Kalim Scharenguivel** and his father-in-law, **Stephen Tritton**, designed the original system for Stephen's boat in 2020. That owner-first beginning still shapes the business: match the watermaker to the boat, keep the installation serviceable and remain available when the owner needs help.
## Why sailors choose it
- **Australian owned and supported.** Based in Tempe, Sydney, shipping Australia-wide and supporting systems used locally and overseas. - **A real specialist on the phone.** Kalim says he personally handles much of the sales advice and technical support, including weekends. - **Modular installation.** The pump, filters, membrane housings and control panel can be distributed through the spaces actually available aboard. - **Serviceable parts.** Standard 10-inch filters, DuPont FilmTec SW30-2540 membranes and established pump technology avoid locking routine consumables behind a proprietary enclosure. - **Three-year warranty.** The marine range includes local technical help and replacement-parts support.
## The marine range
| Model family | Membranes | Published nominal output* | Published price from** | Best suited to | |---|---:|---:|---:|---| | **Performance Single** | 1 | 80 L/h | $6,401 | Couples, coastal cruising and tighter installations | | **Performance Double** | 2 | 140 L/h | $7,791 | Families and liveaboards | | **Performance Triple** | 3 | 200 L/h | $9,181 | Larger crews, expedition boats and shorter run times |
* Nominal outputs are stated at 35,000 ppm seawater, 25°C and 800 psi on the current product pages. The broader category labels advertise up to 80, 160 and 240 L/h. Real output varies with temperature, salinity, membrane age and pump choice. ** AUD, GST included and shipping excluded, checked September 2026. ## What the systems include
The Performance range combines FilmTec seawater membranes and duplex-stainless pressure-vessel end caps with a 240 V AC triplex high-pressure pump, 20 and 5 micron pre-filtration, freshwater flush equipment, food-grade hose, fittings and a remote stainless control panel. The panel brings together pressure and flow instruments, a TDS meter and the product-water controls.
Feed-pump choices include a 12 V DC 110 W pump and, on relevant configurations, a 240 V AC Davey XF171S. The published high-pressure motor ratings are nameplate ratings—not measured total electrical draw.
## Size it around the whole boat
Check continuous and starting load against the inverter, generator, alternators and battery bank; service clearance for every module; realistic daily freshwater demand; intake, pre-filter, brine-discharge and tank-plumbing routes; and the spares and preservation routine needed for the intended cruising area.
A larger membrane bank can make more water in a shorter run, but the right answer depends on the boat's electrical architecture. Ask for measured running watts for the exact high-pressure and feed-pump combination you are considering.
## The story behind the support
Kalim describes the company as an extension of that first Sunday project: solve the owner's real problem, explain the machinery and keep it repairable. He also identifies autonomous solar-powered systems supplied to communities in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands as work he is especially proud of—an application where dependable water production and field serviceability matter far beyond cruising convenience.

## What owners report
The testimonials published by Water Makers Australia and linked to its Google review profile repeatedly mention access to Kalim during selection, DIY installation and commissioning:
- **Peter A** describes being guided from equipment choice through a self-install. - **Ian D** reports 120–140 L/h from a twin-membrane system during its first six months and readily available help with membranes and hose routing. - **Philippe Laurans** highlights responsive commissioning support and a detailed installation manual. - **Ross Rynehart** says the system worked reliably and that a requested spare part was handled quickly. - **Donna and Brett Gray** report output close to the stated figure, while noting that their Kärcher-powered configuration placed a heavy load on a 3,000 W inverter and was easier to run from a 7 kVA generator.
These are selected customer reviews presented by the supplier, not laboratory tests. Buyers should still validate output and power requirements for their exact configuration.
